Presented with the support of the City of Gothenburg

	Pennygångens Konsthall is a nomadic exhibition project based in the Pennygången housing estate in Gothenburg. Founded in 2026 by Ina Porselius and Clara Aldén, the project explores how contemporary art can engage with the places and conditions of everyday life.

Pennygångens Konsthall’s inaugural exhibition is a group exhibition exploring the home and family life as subject, experience, and site. By staging the exhibition in a private apartment, the artworks are brought into dialogue with the environment from which they emerge. Visitors encounter the works in a lived-in home, where traces of everyday life and the rhythms of family life become integral to the spatial experience of the exhibition.

To visit the exhibition, visitors ring the doorbell and are welcomed into the family’s private home. The encounter between viewer and artwork takes place in an intimate, everyday setting, where the boundaries between the private and the public are temporarily renegotiated. The apartment is therefore not merely a neutral container for art, but an active component of the exhibition itself, giving the project a performative dimension.The inaugural exhibition also marked Pennygångens Konsthall's first curatorial collaboration, bringing together invited artists whose works engage with questions of home, family, and everyday life. Installed in the apartment where one of the founders and her family continued to live throughout the exhibition period, the exhibition blurred the distinction between domestic space and exhibition space. Works were placed in relation to the rooms, objects, and situations from which they emerged, allowing the home itself to become an active participant in the exhibition rather than merely its setting.

	16.30 departs from the apartment where Clara Aldén and Henning Klungtvedt live together with their family.

In the gallery space, fragments of the apartment’s walls and rooms are recreated. The structures do not function as a home, but as carriers of painting and sculpture. They become projection surfaces for works whose motifs are drawn from situations and events that have taken place in the apartment. At first glance, the motifs may appear everyday or banal, yet they contain experiences that are both meaningful and charged with political and philosophical dimensions.
Aldén had her first child during her undergraduate studies and has since been working on a long-term artistic project examining the conditions of parenthood. Co-creation is a central part of her artistic practice, and 16:30 invites the entire family as active participants in the artistic process.

		<description>
	Ideas cannot be fossilized, 2023-26
This project is currently being developed into several public artworks; one can already be seen in Ulricaparken, Ulricehamn.

In Ideas cannot be fossilized, granite sculptures are created from children’s drawings. Through workshops exploring cave paintings, rock carvings, and runestones, children are invited to reflect on what is worth preserving for the future. The project investigates drawing as a universal language, connecting children’s image-making to questions of memory, human traces, and existence. Once carved into stone, the drawings become both time capsules and collective narratives of our present.

Jacques Lacan argued that children enter society through language. This project asks whether giving children’s creative expressions a place within culture might enable us to see the world around us with new eyes.

This project is partly inspired by the consciousness-raising pedagogy of the Brazilian educator Paolo Freire; he believes that by becoming aware of one's reality, one becomes a co-creator in ones culture and, in the long run, also a co-creator in ones history.

		<description>
	The pocket archive, 2024Orsa konsthall, 2024

	The project centres on the objects children collect and carry home – stones, sticks, shells, and other seemingly insignificant things. By documenting and reworking these objects, the project explores the intimate relationship between children and their belongings. Why is it this particular stone that ends up in a pocket? What do children see in these objects that adults so often pass by without noticing?

At Orsa konsthall, selections from this growing archive are presented alongside a series of watercolour paintings based on the objects in the collection. In the paintings, the objects are activated through the children's imagination. A stick is no longer simply a stick, and a shell is more than just a shell; through play, ordinary objects are transformed and given new meanings and functions.

The titles Preoperational Bone, Preoperational Stick, and Preoperational Shell refer to Jean Piaget’s concept of the preoperational stage of childhood, in which symbolic thinking allows objects to move freely between reality and imagination. Before the world is organised into fixed categories, a found object can become almost anything. The works explore this fluid way of seeing, where the meaning of objects is shaped not primarily by their original function, but by the child’s capacity for imagination.

	The present will kill the past, 2024Galleri KC, Konstnärscentrum väst, Göteborg

	How are we influenced by the place we live in? The French philosopher Gaston Bachelard argues that houses are not just physical structures but also psychological and imaginative spaces that shape our thoughts and feelings. He describes the home as the child's first cosmos.
If the house is the child's first universe, how does its space shape all subsequent knowledge of other spaces? Imagining Bachelard's idea of the house as a stage for daydreams – how are all these different daydreams occupying space influencing the family members living together?

		<description>
	Identity Associates, 2023
	In Identity Associates, Clara Aldén collaborates with her own children to create a series of watercolor paintings. The project explores what it might look like to create a shared documentation of their everyday reality. The paintings are based on photographs taken by the children using the artist's mobile phone, after which they are invited to draw directly onto the finished works. The children's participation in the artistic process is essential; they move from being objects of representation to becoming active subjects in the production of the work. The project also reflects on aesthetic hierarchies, asking what determines whether an aesthetic expression is recognized as art, and what happens when different visual languages meet on the same surface.
